// About ALMA

ALMA HISTORY
The Arizona Latino Media Association is a 501(c)3 organization founded in 1997. Its members are media professionals from the metro Phoenix area. Its mission is to create a stronger media industry through diversity initiatives that deepen the scope, coverage and understanding of U.S. Latino communities.

Its three primary goals are:

  • To attract youth to the media industry and support them through scholarships and mentoring;
  • To provide professional development opportunities for ALMA members; and
  • To seek fair and balanced coverage of Latinos by our media companies.

One of its major activities is its annual high school workshop. For the past 10 years, ALMA has coordinated a high school workshop at Arizona State University. This workshop has provided hundreds of Phoenix-area high school students an opportunity to explore pursuing a media career and provides specific information on skills needed to successfully become a media professional. The day consists of panels, workshops and journalism-related activities led by our members, who are local media professionals.
